Interested in Adding a Meeting Location?

If you would like to organize a meeting for scientists, managers, conservationists, or other coral reef enthusiasts in your area, email us at globalcoralreefweek@posteo.net

To host a successful meeting you'll need to provide:  an Internet connection, a projection method to screen plenary sessions, and time to network (coffee breaks, lunch, or post meeting socials).

Your event will be even more powerful if you can incorporate:  an opportunity for local scientists to share science, field trips to share research or restoration techniques, and workshops (30-60 minute opportunities to discuss a local or global challenge and solutions / new approaches).

Depending on your location and available resources, this could happen with 5-20 people in a conference room, or 20-500 people in a larger meeting hall. Smaller meetings may only need to schedule 1-3 days, larger remote meetings may want to have a full week. Ideally all meetings will occur between July 1st and 14th 2020, making each meeting a piece in the global event.

Becoming an Global Coral Reef Week local meeting organizer will allow your organization to represent your country/community at Global Coral Reef Week. These various meetings will be responsible for hosting local events within their region to set the stage for scientific exchange and public outreach. Universities, Student Associations, NGOs, Government Organizations, and Community Groups can act as local meeting organizers.

Local organizers will be responsible for:

  • Planning, funding, and coordinating the logistics of the event

  • Coordinate any necessary speakers or equipment

  • Coordinate refreshments for networking after the plenary talks

  • Take photos and videos to share with the international community

  • Advertise and promote the event locally

Global Coral Reef Week will provide:

  • Recorded plenary talks to download prior to event

  • Link to live question session with plenaries

  • Advertisement materials

  • A support network

  • Ideas and inspiration for local content

  • Link to further resources and training sessions

  • Advertise and promote the event internationally

We aspire to create local events that enable anyone to participate. For this reason and because of the uncertainty of the possibility of holding in person events due to COVID-19, we highly suggest local organizers to keep their events simple and look for a free venue to hold the event. Consider inviting local sustainable food providers to offer refreshments for a reasonable price at your event, and, if possible, find a sponsor to cover these costs.
